More than 20 years of Edward Snell’s bursary programme

Wednesday, 8 June 2022

Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first democratic president was renowned for his appreciation of the transformative power of education. He once said, “If there is one appeal I could make, it is that young people must take it upon themselves to ensure that they receive the highest education possible so that they can represent us well in the future as future leaders.”

As Edward Snell & Co. we echo Madiba’s love for education and have strived to support our people on this worthy quest. For the past 20 years, our business has run a bursary programme targeting our employees eager to further their studies in fields aligned with our business functions.

Over more than two decades, this bursary programme has assisted many employees and here are testimonials from three of our recent recipients:

Monique Joubert

Monique joined Edward Snell in 2014, starting her career in our Credit Control Department. Owing to her love for numbers, and supported by the bursary programme, Monique enrolled for Credit Management at Credit Blende Training (CBT) and a Bookkeeping course at the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB). In 2021 she completed her National Diploma in Financial Accounting through The Academy of Commerce.

“Through these courses I’ve broadened my knowledge in finance and gained an understanding of current events, allowing me to make meaningful contributions at work. I would like to thank Edward Snell & Co. for every single opportunity that I have been given to pursue my dreams,” says Monqiue.

Luthando Mapoma

In July 2019, Luthando was appointed as a Sales Activator and later promoted to Sales Representative: Informal Market. Through the Edward Snell bursary programme, Luthando has enrolled for a Higher Certificate in Logistics and Supply Management through the IIE Varsity College, with the goal of becoming a supply chain specialist.

“I would like to encourage my fellow colleagues to use the educational opportunities at our disposal and grasp them firmly with both hands. I feel highly honoured to be a part of the Snell family,” says Luthando.

Alaché St Clair Marks

Alaché was persuaded to start her study journey by fellow colleagues and was assisted by our Human Resources department. She is now completing a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance through Varsity College Online.

“While it is not easy to juggle work, studying and family life, I believe it will be worth the stress in the end. I’m encouraged by knowing that there are no shortcuts to success,” concludes Alaché.
