Oude Molen VS Cape Brandy
Matured using the Spanish Solera method with old Spanish Sherry Casks, Oude Molen VS Cape Brandy has a consistently smooth taste with a unique European twist. The blend contains brandy between 3 and 6 years old.
Sherry, wood and walnut aromas mask a more subtle bouquet of apricot, sweet vanilla tropical fruit. The palate is full and fruity, with spices and a nutty, sherry-laden swallow. The finish is soft, fresh and long lasting.
The story of Oude Molen Cape Brandy dates back to the early 1900’s and the arrival of one Renier “René” Van Eibergen Santhagens in South Africa. A well educated and travelled man, René developed and refined his passion for distillation in the famed vineyards of Cognac, France.
In 1910 he was able to distil and mature his first ever Santy’s Premium Brandy at his Oude Molen (Old Mill) Farm in Stellenbosch. His methods still remain widely written into modern brandy legislation, and he is often referred to as the “Father of South African Brandy”.
The Oude Molen Distillery produces to this day, fine Cape Brandy in honour of its pioneering forefather, René Santhagens.
