FIRSTWATCH IMPORTED WHISKY LAUNCHED THE FIRST EVER FIRSTWATCH ENTREPRENEURS CHALLENGE
Firstwatch Imported whisky sent out a call to budding entrepreneurs and small business owners to take part in the first-ever Firstwatch Entrepreneurs Challenge for a chance to win R 50 000 worth of support for their business. Set in Johannesburg, the heart of South Africa’s entrepreneurial spirit, the challenge attracted over 200 eager entrepreneurs who signed up to be part of this exciting program that would give them the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to realise their business dreams. Once all the entries were received, 100 lucky finalists were selected to join a 2-day intensive business workshop. In the robust 2-day workshop, the finalists received first-hand business skills from some of South Africa’s leading business experts. They were taught how to build an impressive business plan and how to bring their business ideas to life in meaningful, sustainable ways that would attract growth for their business. At the end of the 2-day workshop, each finalist was given an opportunity to pitch his/her business idea to a panel of judges. From this gruelling exercise, 10 finalists were selected for the final round, which took place at Disoufeng Pub in Soweto. The top 10 candidates had five minutes to pitch their business ideas ‘Shark Tank style’ in front of an audience and a panel of expert judges, which included: Marnus Broodryk (CEO of Beancounter); Lele Mehlomakhulu (Founder of mPower People Solutions); Dawn Nathan Jones (CEO of Growealth); Andile Khumalo (Founder of I AM AN ENTREPRENEUR); and Tilldan Bungani (Brand Manager of Firstwatch Whisky).
The event attracted the whos who in business and entertainment, including Zakes Bantwini and Terrence McKay, who gave sterling performances at the end of the event, after Mpho Mohaswa, Owner of Precious Pearl Brands, was crowned the overall winner. ‘It is great to have an established brand such as Firstwatch Whisky backing my business idea. Winning for me means more growth, brand awareness and brand visibility, which will result in more sales for the business,’ Mpho said, after her impressive win.
